Two Mothers Fear the Worst After 6th Woman’s Body Is Found in KwaThema

EKURHULENI - Two mothers are living in anguish after a sixth woman's body was discovered in KwaThema on Tuesday, each fearing that the unidentified victim could be their own missing daughter.

Residents gathered at the scene on Tuesday, 15 September 2026, as police continued investigating the disturbing discovery. The case has caused growing concern in the community following the discovery of several women’s bodies in and around the area.

Mothers fear the worst

Two mothers, Tsidi Ngake and Catherine Nakhi, spoke to the Sowetan about the discovery and the fears it has raised for their families.

Ngake said her daughter, Plaesa, has been missing for a little over a month. She explained that she had not initially reported her daughter missing because Plaesa would sometimes stay away from home for periods of time.

However, that changed when Ngake heard about the woman’s body being found close to her home.

The description of the unidentified woman as being short and having a tattoo heightened her fears that the victim could be Plaesa. Ngake said she was not allowed to confirm whether the body was that of her daughter.

Nakhi is also desperately searching for her 25-year-old daughter, Nmandi, who has been missing since Friday.She said she had been unable to reach Nmandi by phone and that her daughter’s friends also did not know where she was.

According to Nakhi, Nmandi had disappeared before, usually leaving on a Friday and returning by Sunday. However, by Tuesday, she had still not returned home.

Police investigate possible links

The discovery of the bodies has left residents deeply worried, with questions mounting over whether the cases could be connected.

Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said investigators are analysing dockets, victim profiles and suspects’ behaviour to establish whether the cases could be linked to one person or a group. Mathe said no confirmed link between the cases had been established yet.

Investigators are also considering whether copycat criminals could be involved as they work to establish what happened to the women. The latest discovery has intensified fears in KwaThema, while families of missing women continue waiting for answers.

Police confirm seventh body was found

Briefly News also reported that police in Ekurhuleni have confirmed that a seventh body has been added to their investigation into a string of killings targeting women in the area. Acting Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana made the confirmation in Kwa-Thema on 15 September 2026, where another woman's body was found. The Kwa-Thema victim's body was dumped on the side of the road.
