Inanda Suspect Killed in Police Raid Linked to KZN Crime Intelligence Officers' Murder

KWAZULU-NATAL —A suspect wanted for the fatal April ambush of two KwaZulu-Natal Crime Intelligence members was shot dead during a police raid in Inanda on Friday morning. A Special Task Force member suffered gunshot wounds in the exchange and was taken for medical care.
According to eNCA, the police operation directly relates to the 30 April attack in Mount Edgecombe, north of Durban. Captain Louis Nel and Sergeant Mandla Khuzwayo were sitting inside an unmarked official vehicle when assailants opened fire. Nel died at the scene, while Khuzwayo passed away in hospital on 25 May. Journalist Dasen Thathiah tweeted about the shooting on his X account.
KZN Commissioner's Pledge to Hunt Down Perpetrators
KZN Provincial Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi vowed to bring the killers to book during Nel's funeral service, promising the grieving families that police would find the suspects dead or alive.

Following operational leads, tactical team members traced the wanted suspect to an Inanda hideout. Gunfire was exchanged as officers moved in to effect the arrest, leaving the suspect dead.
Hawks Probe Whether More Suspects Were Involved
Detectives from the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) have maintained their investigation into the Mount Edgecombe incident. Investigators are currently determining if other accomplices played a role in the dual killing.
The early-morning tactical operation forms part of broader efforts by law enforcement to counter targeted violence against officers in the province.
