GAUTENG — Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya has been formally served with a notice to appear before a police disciplinary hearing.
Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, National Spokesperson for the South African Police Service, confirmed the development during a media briefing outside Randburg Magistrate's Court on 29 September 2026, where Sibiya's bail application was heard.
The suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner is facing charges of rape, sexual grooming and trafficking in persons. His bail application has been postponed to 1 October 2026.

Sibiya served with disciplinary notice
Speaking outside the court, Brigadier Mathe noted that a senior presiding officer served Sibiya the notice at the court's holding cells.
The five-day notice period required under SAPS regulations begins from the date of service, making 5 October the earliest permissible date for the hearing to proceed. The charges relate to allegations arising from the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
The location of the disciplinary hearing has not yet been finalised, as it depends on whether the general is granted bail. If Sibiya remains in custody, arrangements will be made with the Department of Correctional Services to hold the hearing at Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre in Pretoria. Should he be released on bail, the venue will be communicated to him separately.
Sibiya was placed on suspension in mid-July 2025 after KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi levelled explosive allegations against him, including alleged political interference in sensitive investigations and alleged links to criminal syndicates.
Mkhwanazi also accused Sibiya of involvement in disbanding the Political Killings Task Team. National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola formally suspended him pending internal investigations and parliamentary inquiries.
General Sibiya moved to Kgosi Mampuru
Briefly News reported that General Sibiya appeared before the Randburg Magistrate's Court on 22 September 2026.
The State revealed that it was aware of reported escape attempts linked to the senior officer, leading to his move to a secure facility.
He was then moved to Kgosi Mampuru II Management Area, a large maximum- and medium-security prison in Pretoria.
