GAUTENG — President Cyril Ramaphosa has called on families across Ekurhuleni to report missing loved ones to the police without hesitation, warning that delays in doing so are hampering investigations into a series of women's murders in the area.
According to eNCA, Ramaphosa addressed the nation on 29 September 2026, using his remarks to highlight a troubling pattern: of all the women whose bodies have been found across Ekurhuleni in recent months, only two had been formally reported missing to the police before they were discovered.
Ramaphosa clears up 24-hour myth
The president used the address to correct a widespread misconception, making clear that members of the public are not required to wait 24 hours before filing a missing-person report. Ramaphosa urged anyone who suspects a loved one is in danger, or senses that something is wrong, to contact the authorities immediately rather than waiting.

Ramaphosa told the nation that the State is pooling its available law enforcement resources to establish the facts, pursue the investigations, and identify those responsible for the killings. He confirmed that a specialised team has been deployed and is actively working on the Ekurhuleni cases.

Turning his attention to the broader community, Ramaphosa issued a direct appeal for public cooperation, urging anyone with relevant information to come forward immediately.

Authorities confirmed that regular updates on the progress of the investigations will be made available to the public on condition that such disclosures do not compromise the integrity of the cases or the rights of those involved in the proceedings.
