Woman's Body Found in Shallow Grave Inside Lerato Park Shack in Roodepan

NORTHERN CAPE — Roodepan police are investigating the murder of a 31-year-old woman whose body was found buried in a shallow grave inside a shack in Lerato Park, Roodepan, on Wednesday, 30 September 2026.

The South African Police Service announced the discovery on 1 October 2026, stating that the body was found at approximately 16:30.

How the body was discovered

According to the police's X statement, the deceased had last been seen in July 2026. A family member grew concerned about her whereabouts and filed a missing person report with the Roodepan SAPS on Saturday, 26 September 2026, prompting officers to open a formal enquiry and begin investigations.

The family member visited the shack on Tuesday, 29 September 2026, but found the dwelling locked and was unable to gain entry. The following day, she returned alongside a community member. Upon opening the door, the two noticed that the soil inside the shack appeared disturbed. Further inspection led to the discovery of the shallow grave.

No arrests made as investigation continues

Police confirmed that no arrests have been made at this stage. Detectives are conducting extensive investigations into the circumstances surrounding the woman's death.

The discovery in Roodepan comes amid heightened concern across South Africa over violence against women, following the recent discovery of the bodies of 11 women in Gauteng. Ten of those victims were found in Ekurhuleni, with four initially uncovered in Kempton Park before six additional bodies were found in rapid succession in the same area.
