Rachel Kolisi has broken her silence on the femicide crisis gripping South Africa, posting a deeply emotional response after news broke that the body of an 11th woman had been found in Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg. Using crying and broken heart emojis, she reshared the eNCA news report before confronting her followers with a set of statistics that are difficult to read without stopping.

"569 women. Killed. In South Africa. In three months," Kolisi shared on Instagram on Monday, 28 September 2026. "That's April to June 2026. One quarter. 569."

She did not stop there. Her post also pointed out that 1,052 women survived attempted murders during that same three-month window, and that 8,814 rapes were reported in the same period. The post ended with a direct instruction to her followers:

The Ekurhuleni killings

Police confirmed on Monday that the body of the latest female victim was discovered in Springs, a town within the Ekurhuleni municipality, by a private security company conducting patrols on Sunday evening. The discovery brings the total number of women's bodies found in the area to 11.

Investigators first raised the alarm after three bodies were found in July and August within roughly seven kilometres of one another. Then, earlier in September, six more bodies were discovered within just 10 days, prompting widespread fears that a serial killer or killers may be operating in the region. The most recent body was found just a day after another woman, who appeared to have been violently killed, was discovered near Tembisa township.
