After serving his country with distinction, former Uganda goalkeeper Denis Onyango has been rewarded with a brand new car. Onyango recently announced retirement from national team duties and the veteran skipper’s contribution has attracted President Yoweri Museveni’s attention.
Museveni decided to give the Mamelodi Sundowns keeper a brand new Mitsubishi Pajero, which costs a whopping R738 000.
According to Phakaaathi, the handover of the keys occurred in the presence of the president as well as his wife Janet Kataha Museveni, who is also the Ugandan Minister of Education and Sport.
Museveni hosted a delegation of members from the Federation of Ugandan Football Federation associations (FUFA).
KawowoSports also reports that the formal handover of the car was held on Thursday at the Entebbe State House, and the Masandawana netminder couldn’t travel back to Mzansi for the league match against TS Galaxy last Sunday - he was a notable absentee.
Museveni told Kawowo Sports:
“My son Denis Onyango, Mama, Janet Museveni, myself and the entire country appreciate thank you for bringing us national pride through your heroic exhibitions on and off the pitch, in and outside the country. We wish you the best of luck.”
