Smith, who claimed gold in the 100m breaststroke and silver in the 200m breaststroke at the 2024 Paris Olympics, described her mindset simply as: "I'm back."

Rather than returning to the longer breaststroke distances that have defined her career, Smith has indicated that the 50m sprint format is her primary focus heading into the Los Angeles cycle.
