The murder case against former club cricketer Tristan Perez has been postponed until 15 October 2026 following a procedural dispute over documentation supplied to the defence, with the Wynberg Regional Court yet to determine whether the matter will proceed to trial.

Perez stands accused of murdering his girlfriend, Elana Brooke, 46. He was first arrested in March after police grew suspicious about the circumstances surrounding her death. Investigators were granted access to his phone, on which they discovered a recording of what appeared to be a heated argument between the two. Perez reportedly told officers that Brooke had died by suicide.

Brooke Family Encouraged Despite Postponement

David, Brooke’s ex-husband and family spokesperson, addressed the latest development following Tuesday’s proceedings, acknowledging the frustration caused by yet another postponement while urging patience with the legal process.

He said that although the delay was naturally frustrating, the family understood the need for due process and remained encouraged by the progress of the case and its continued engagement with the State prosecution team.

David described 15 October as a pivotal date, saying it should provide greater clarity on the next stage of the proceedings and whether the matter would proceed to trial.

He added that several legal processes could take place before then and that the family intended to allow those procedures to run their course.

David said the family’s focus remained on securing justice for Elana, adding that they would continue taking things one step at a time. Perez has been released on bail and has made several court appearances since his initial arrest in March.

Perez's Cricket Career Ended Before Arrest

Before his arrest, Perez was a prominent figure in Cape Town's club cricket circuit. He had been a long-standing member of Claremont Cricket Club, where he recorded a double century for the second XI, scoring 237 runs off 113 balls.

However, the club had already terminated his membership in mid-February, citing disciplinary matters it described as inconsistent with the club's ethos and values, weeks before police apprehended him.
