Erik ten Hag reportedly returned to his native Netherlands as soon as he was relieved of his duties as Manchester United's boss.

Ten Hag was handed the news on Monday, October 28, just hours after he had watched his side lose controversially to West Ham.

The decision came after a long period of sustained pressure on the INEOS-controlled club to crack the whip on the former Ajax boss. The West Ham defeat was their fourth after only nine games of the new campaign.

Erik ten Hag's parents console him

Mail Sport understands that Ten Hag quickly rushed to Manchester Airport, where he boarded a Cessna jet back home to Amsterdam's Schiphol airport.

The report further states that his parents, Hennie and Joke, visited him at his Oldenzaal home and consoled him.

Erik ten Hag's statement to Manchester United fans

The 54-year-old released a statement to the fans after his sacking.

"Dear fans, let me start by thanking you. Thank you for always being there for the club. Whether it was at a game far away or a tough match at Old Trafford, your support has been unshakeable," he said, as quoted by Sky Sports.
"I want to thank you for giving me this feeling and for your support. I also want to thank the staff in every department of the club for their unwavering support in good times and bad."

It remains unclear whether he would quickly want to jump back into management should an opportunity come his way.

How much Manchester United paid Ten Hag

At the same time, Briefly News has reported on the amount Manchester United paid Ten Hag for sacking him mid-season.

Ten Hag had only recently extended his contract which means the Red Devils had to buy him out to fire him.
