Why Jurrien Timber Was Allowed To Retake Throw-In in Chelsea vs Arsenal
- Jurrien Timber escaped an embarrassing moment during Chelsea's game against Arsenal on November 10
- The Arsenal fullback had a foul throw but was allowed to retake it by the centre referee, Michael Oliver

Chelsea and Arsenal cancelled each other out in a cagey London derby at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening.
Gabriel Martinelli fired the visitors in front, but Pedro Neto rifled a shot from way out to restore parity and ensure both sides came out with a point.
It was a game of few notable incidents, with referee Michael Oliver having a quiet day in office. Kai Havertz's disallowed goal in the first half was one of the few talking points after VAR ruled him out for a tight offside.
The other incident saw Jurrien Timber commit a foul throw in the first half. The Dutch fullback attempted to take the throw but completely miscued the effort with the ball sliding out of his hands.
Rules on throw-in
But rather surprisingly, the referee allowed him to retake the throw, much to the frustration of the home fans. A foul throw is often penalised by giving possession to the opponent, but in this case, Oliver was right, as captured in FA Rules.
"The ball is in play when it enters the field of play. If the ball touches the ground before entering, the throw-in is retaken by the same team from the same position. If the throw-in is not taken correctly it is retaken by the opposing team."
Why Timber was allowed to retake throw-in
Timber was bailed out by the fact that the ball slid out of his hands and fell out of the pitch. Had the ball come into play, it would have been handed to Chelsea.
Fans were convinced the former Ajax man was stalling to allow Havertz, who was off the pitch, to seek medical attention.
The result saw Chelsea usurp Nottingham Forest and move into the top three of the Premier League table with 19 points. Arsenal are in fourth with the same points but an inferior goal difference.
Havertz infuriates Chelsea fans
Briefly News has also reported on Kai Havertz shushing Chelsea fans before his goal was disallowed.
Havertz thought he had put the Gunners ahead but his goal was chalked off for offside after a quickly-taken free-kick by Declan Rice.
