Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been provisionally suspended by the Football Association (FA) after a positive drug test.

The Premier League club confirmed on Tuesday that the FA contacted them after an "adverse finding in a routine urine test".

The winger arrived at Stamford Bridge in January 2023 but has struggled to perform since then.

Mudryk reacts to drugs test

The Ukrainian has not been in the Chelsea squad for the last five matches, with Blues coach Enzo Maresca citing illness as the reason for his absence.

"Mykhailo has confirmed categorically that he has never knowingly used any banned substances. Both Mykhailo and the club will now work with the relevant authorities to establish what has caused the adverse finding," Chelsea said in a statement.

The 23-year-old has denied taking any banned substance in a statement on social media.

"I can confirm that I have been notified that a sample I provided to The FA contained a banned substance."
This has come as a complete shock as I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules, and am working closely with my team to investigate how this could have happened."
"I know that I have not done anything wrong and remain hopeful that I will be back on the pitch soon. I cannot say any more now due to the confidentiality of the process, but I will as soon as I can💙"

Mudryk has struggled to live up to his prize stage ever since he moved to Chelsea in January 2023.

The BBC reports that a player will be provisionally suspended if there's a positive drugs test.

Mudryk has played 79 games for Chelsea and registered 10 goals and nine assists.

Briefly News also reported that Chelsea released an official statement acknowledging receipt of a complaint from the Football Association (FA) regarding Mykhailo Mudryk’s doping test.

The FA informed the club and the player about an "adverse finding" in his urine sample, sparking speculation and concern.
