Orlando Pirates Urged to Sign a Player With Lucas Ribeiro's Talent

  • Orlando Pirates have been advised by their club legend to consider signing a player with Lucas Ribeiro's talent
  • The Mamelodi Sundowns forward has been rated as one of the best players in the Betway Premiership since moving to South Africa
  • The Buccaneers fans shared their thoughts on their club legend opinion about signing a player like Ribeiro this summer on social media

Orlando Pirates legend Bruce Ramokgadi has urged his former club to consider signing a player with the talent of Lucas Ribeiro ahead of next season.

The Mamelodi Sundowns star has been tipped to win the Player of the Season award ahead of close competitor Relebohile Mofokeng. Themba Zwane has tipped the Brazilian forward to win the award for his performance last season alongside former Kaizer Chiefs captain Tefu Mashamaite.

Ramokgadi expressed his excitement about the Sea Robbers adding new players to their ranks this summer, but still wants his former side to do better.

Ramokgadi: Pirates need a player like Ribeiro

Speaking to iDiski Times, Ramokgadi shared his concerns about Orlando Pirates’ recent signings, particularly Sinoxolo Kwayiba and Yanela Mbuthuma.

“In my opinion, they don’t have the stature needed at a club like Pirates,” he said.
“I believe Pirates should have gone for a top-quality international player—someone like Lucas Ribeiro at Sundowns, who can turn a game around with a moment of brilliance. Exploring the African market for such talent could have been a better option.”

Ramokgadi also expressed the need for reinforcements in defence, particularly at right-back.

“I think they really need a solid right-back,” he added.
“Yes, they have Deano Van Rooyen, but he didn’t perform well last season—maybe he was still adapting. That position needs strengthening. I’m also unsure about the left-back role now that Paseka Mako has left.”

"Clearly he was blind when Rele and Saleng's moments of magic gave Pirates trophies in the last 3 seasons."

Marksman_SS commented:

"I respect Bruce for his contributions to the Ghost but in this context he is talking nonsense. Pirates didn't experience any issues about creating chances or scoring goals at any level last season. Bruce you are out of line here."

MajorrSA responded:

"Rele, Saleng & Romeo never created outta nothing? Yol give this Rebeiro too credit even when it’s not necessary."

_CounterForce shared:

"He is right, Bruce. @orlandopirates no longer has that kind of player who makes the team play. Someone who can control and dictate the game, They need to invest in great players. The team has few good players but not great like Teko, Tso Vilakazi, Jerry Sikhosana etc."
