Kaizer Chiefs started the season on a good note as they claimed a 2-0 win over Stellenbosch FC in the absence of their head coach, Nasreddine Nabi, at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Sunday evening.
The Soweto giants took the lead through Nkosingiphile Ngcobo's lovely free-kick in the first half, and they capped off the evening with a late goal from Glody Lilepo from the penalty spot as the Glamour Boys sealed all three points away from home.
Amakhosi were without their head coach, Nabi, who travelled to Tunisia on Friday following a family emergency and had assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef and his second assistant Cedric Kaze take over their Betway Premiership opener against the Stellies.

The Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach also analysed what the team did in both halves of the match.
"First of all, I want to say that we dedicated this win to the entire Kaizer Chiefs family, especially to Coach Nabi and his wife. We promised we'd win this game for them, and we continue to pray for her health and recovery," he told SuperSport TV after the match.
"We're incredibly proud of the players, they performed very well today. We struggled a bit in the first half. After scoring and then seeing the opponent get a red card, we mentally felt like the game was already won. That affected us slightly.
"Fortunately, we didn’t concede, and in the second half, we made some important changes. Like I said, we’re proud, every player gave their all. We're also happy for the fans. Now that this match is done, our focus shifts to the next challenge against Polokwane City.
"We have just two days to rest, and then it’s back to work for the next game."
Kaizer Chiefs players will rest for two days as Youssef confirmed and will begin preparation for their next match against Polokwane City in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
