Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz pulled no punches after his side was held to a draw by Richards Bay in their recent Premier Soccer League encounter, describing the result as a self-inflicted loss.
Amakhosi found themselves behind twice during the match but battled back each time to rescue a point, recording their first positive result at Richards Bay following three consecutive defeats at the venue. Despite the comeback, Da Cruz was unwilling to frame the draw as anything other than a missed opportunity.
"We lost two points today," Da Cruz told SuperSport TV. "We played a very good game, we were better than the opponents. We drew not because the opponent was better but because we made too many mistakes."
The coach was particularly pointed in his assessment of the two goals conceded, insisting that both were gifts rather than genuine moments of quality from the home side.

**Da Cruz Finds Bright Spots on the Bench**
Amid the frustration, Da Cruz acknowledged a positive pattern emerging from his substitutes. Faiz Abrahams and Asanele Velebayi both made an impact after coming on, with Velebayi providing the assist for Siphesihle Ndlovu's equaliser.
"Since the beginning, our substitutes have made good jobs when coming on," Da Cruz said. "We need to keep this mindset because we don't only need 11 players but the whole squad."
**Chiefs Remain Unbeaten but Trail Pirates and Sundowns**
Kaizer Chiefs currently sit third on the league standings, having collected eight points from four matches without suffering a defeat. However, that tally leaves them two points adrift of joint leaders Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, who have set the early pace in the title race.
