Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz was left frustrated after his side were held to a draw by Richards Bay in their latest Premier Soccer League encounter, viewing the result as a game they had effectively thrown away.

Amakhosi twice came from behind to secure a point, ending a run of three successive defeats at Richards Bay. However, despite the comeback, Da Cruz believed Chiefs should have taken all three points after producing the better performance.

Da Cruz finds bright spots on bench

The coach felt Chiefs were superior to their opponents for much of the contest but were let down by their own errors. He argued that the two goals they conceded came as a result of mistakes rather than Richards Bay creating clear-cut opportunities through superior play.

Da Cruz also highlighted the positive impact of his substitutes, with Faiz Abrahams and Asanele Velebayi making a difference after coming off the bench. Velebayi, in particular, played a key role by setting up Siphesihle Ndlovu for Chiefs' equaliser.

The coach stressed that the contributions from his substitutes reflected the importance of having a strong squad rather than relying solely on the starting XI. He believes Chiefs must maintain that mentality and continue getting valuable contributions from players introduced during matches.

Chiefs remain unbeaten but trail Pirates and Sundowns

Kaizer Chiefs currently sit third on the league standings, having collected eight points from four matches without suffering a defeat. However, that tally leaves them two points adrift of joint leaders Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, who have set the early pace in the title race.

The Glamour Boys return to action on 5 September, when they will host Siwelele FC at home.
