Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams used his Man of the Match platform to respond to critics of his goalkeeping department and to offer public support to Kaizer Chiefs stopper Brandon Petersen following Sundowns' 2-0 Betway Premiership victory over newly promoted Milford FC.
Speaking to SuperSportTV after the match, Williams pushed back against the narrative that Sundowns' keepers have been underperforming despite the team's unbeaten run.
Williams Addresses Goalkeeping Criticism
"We've been winning every game, but our department has been getting a lot of criticism because we've been conceding a lot of goals," Williams said.
He acknowledged that the style of goalkeeping demanded at Sundowns carries inherent risk.
"It can be easy for me just to stand on my line and be a line goalkeeper, but that's not what is required at a team like Sundowns."

Williams directed his post-match words at his fellow keepers within the squad, including Ricardo Goss, Denis Onango, and Ree Pietersen, as well as goalkeeping coach Kennedy, crediting their collective resilience under scrutiny.
A Message to Keepers Across the League
The veteran shot-stopper extended his solidarity beyond the Sundowns camp, singling out Sipho Chaine and Petersen by name. Petersen, who was widely regarded as one of the standout performers in the Betway Premiership last season, has faced a difficult start to the current campaign with Kaizer Chiefs.
"Brandon Petersen, he was amazing last season; now he's going through things, but he will reach there again, and that's the nature of the beast," Williams said.

He framed his comments as part of a broader effort to elevate the status of goalkeeping in South African football. "We changed how goalkeepers are being looked at now, and I'm just glad. This is for all the goalkeepers," he added.
The Man of the Match accolade came on the back of several crucial saves that helped preserve Sundowns' clean sheet against Milford FC, continuing their dominant start to the league season.
