Bafana Bafana have climbed to 48th in the latest FIFA World Rankings after completing a successful international break with a 1-0 win over Egypt in Cairo on Sunday, 4 October 2025.

The result capped a flawless first assignment for head coach Pitso Mosimane, who has now won all three of his matches at the helm of the South African national side.

The decisive moment came in the 51st minute, when former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Puso Dithejane converted on his senior international debut. **Mosimane's Winning Start**

The win in Cairo marks Bafana Bafana's third consecutive victory under Mosimane. South Africa had previously beaten Guinea and Eritrea in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers the month before, giving the new coach a perfect record across three competitive outings.

Football analyst Uche Anuma, speaking in an exclusive interview with Briefly News, attributed the rankings jump directly to the team's recent form.

"Bafana Bafana's performance in their last three games have been the reason they've moved up consecutively on the FIFA rankings," Anuma said. "Pitso Mosimane and his boys deserved it, and defeating Egypt in their backyard is not a easy feat."

Defeating Egypt on home soil is widely regarded as one of the more demanding tasks in African football, given the Pharaohs' continental pedigree and the hostility of their home support.

Bafana Bafana's rise to 48th in the world reflects a period of renewed momentum under Mosimane, whose appointment was met with considerable expectation given his extensive coaching experience across Africa and beyond.
