The Springboks have wasted little time responding to Siya Kolisi’s latest injury setback, turning to a veteran whose international career appeared to have moved into its final chapter. Deon Fourie has reportedly been recalled to the national squad after Kolisi was forced off against Argentina with another hamstring problem.
Kolisi had only recently returned from injury when he left Saturday’s 17-10 victory in Buenos Aires during the first half. The Springbok captain confirmed afterwards that he had injured his hamstring again.
“I hurt my hamstring again, unfortunately. So, I’ll go for a scan and see how far it is,” Kolisi said.
“It is really tough, but I can’t be sad about it,” he added. “There is nothing I can do now, other than to go and have a scan and then see how long I’m out for.”

Deon Fourie gets surprise Springbok recall
SARugbyMag reports that Fourie has been called up to the Springbok squad and is expected to join the team in Johannesburg on Tuesday, 11 August.
The 39-year-old produced an impressive performance for the Stormers against the All Blacks on Friday, 7 August. He scored a try, won two turnovers and made 14 tackles from 15 attempts.
Fourie last played for South Africa in the 2023 Rugby World Cup final, featuring for 77 minutes at hooker.

Veteran brings experience to Springbok squad
Stormers director of rugby John Dobson praised Fourie after the match.
“An incredible performance,” Dobson said. “He’s almost 40. He made three tackles in 15 seconds, and two of them were try-saving.”
Fourie’s return gives Rassie Erasmus another experienced option while the Springboks await the results of Kolisi’s scan.
South Africa face New Zealand at Ellis Park on 22 August, adding significance to the timing of the veteran’s recall.
