The match will also mark a historic occasion for South African rugby. It is only the fourth time the Springboks have played a Test on American soil, and the first time they have faced New Zealand in the United States.
South Africa's record in the country stands at two wins and one defeat. Their first appearance came in 1981, when they beat the United States 38-7 at Owl Creek Polo Ground in Glenville, New York. They returned two decades later and defeated the Americans again, winning 43-20 at Robertson Stadium in Houston on 1 December 2001. Their most recent visit ended in a narrow 22-20 loss to Wales at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC on 2 June 2018.
The full Rugby's Greatest Rivalry series results ahead of the Baltimore finale read as follows: New Zealand defeated the Stormers 38-21 in Cape Town, the Sharks 54-0 in Durban, and the Bulls 50-19 in Pretoria during their provincial tour. New Zealand then won the opening Test 33-16 at Ellis Park in Johannesburg on 22 August, before the Springboks responded with victories of 33-26 in Cape Town on 29 August and 29-24 at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on 5 September.
