Unknown to many of his fans, this self-made cricketer had to make great sacrifices to get to his debut. First, he had to relocate to Pretoria to Potchefstroom in search of a conducive place to train and play cricket. He stayed for a decade training and playing domestic cricket. During this time, he was languishing in the shadow of more talented cricketers who used to take up competent roles, leaving him with no option other than to stay on the bench. However, he did not give up. He was patient, practiced persistently, and eventually became who he is today.
His breakthrough
Rassie has been in the domestic scene for quite some time since 2011, although he made his T20I debut on October 9th, 2018 in East London, where South Africa was playing against Zimbabwe. He performed well with 56 runs off 44 balls, beating Zimbabwe by 34 runs.

He played for Vancouver in the first season of Global T20 Canada, scoring 255 runs in matches, and he emerged as the leading scorer of the tournament.
