There is a misconception about the wages that South African actors and entertainers take home every month.

Despite belief to the contrary, artists do not always earn millions despite being very popular.

Candice Modiselle was recently very surprised when a fan asked her for a R40 000 donation.

She didn't go into detail on what the person needs the money for.

Taking to social media, the actress expressed her surprise and asked her followers just how much they think entertainers make.

This prompted other actors to speak up as well. Muzi Vilakazi, known for his work on Generations The Legacy said:

"I have to repeat this to family, friends all the time ayikho imali kuma Actors ikuma producers & the channel, the calling is the only thing keeping us in those streets."

The Queen's Zenande Mfenyana also weighed in on the matter:

"It amazes me daily the amounts I get asked to donate."

Briefly.co.za noticed that a peep who isn't impressed with this kind of 'donation request', identified as @JustIma40441807, shared their opinion:

"It amazes me how people think they have the RIGHT to ask for a donation. Like it’s owed. Like celebrities got lucky and somehow have to share their wealth.
"No darlings... go and work for your own money. Where’s your pride?!!! How do you think these celebs got rich? Hard work."
