- The daughter of former president Jacob Zuma, Duduzile, recently headed online to share a thank-you message from the Jacob Zuma foundation on behalf of Zuma
- The thank-you comes after locals used th,e hashtag #IBenifittedUnderZuma to explain how Zuma had helped them
- While many were happy that the Zumas acknowledged them, others thought Duduzile was getting ahead of herself
Duduzile Zuma, the daughter of Jacob Zuma has been spending an awful lot of time on social media defending her father and his honour. Over the last few weeks, she has dedicated many social media posts to this cause and the latest one is a thank-you from the Zuma Foundation on behalf of Zuma himself.
The thank-you comes after the past weekend saw hundreds of South Africans using the hashtag #IBenefittedUnderZuma to list all the things that the former president had help them with while he was in power.
While many Zuma supporters were grateful that their favourite ex-president had responded to their gestures of affection, not everyone was impressed with the Zumas and their recent social media stunts.
"Don’t get too excited, “Ivanka” - if Twitter hashtags were a true reflection of how South Africans feel, Juju would be president and your stepmother would be leading the largest opposition party!" wrote MelanieWebbSA.
While others had this to say:
"Whatever Zuma's supporters and his foundation are smoking is not good for them. Listen to such an embarrassing statement. Zuma never helped any poor person, the only people who are proud of his terms as pres is the Guptas and his children, the rest didn't benefit from anything!"
"Giyani especially Xitsonga speaking people we were abandoned by many leaders but he is the first President to give us dignity, and holding gvt rallies in our region, and believe me, many of those who know your job always talk positively about You #Giyani."
Briefly.co.za previously reported that a new hashtag has been trending on social media. Twitter users have used the hashtag #IBenefitedUnderZuma to share their personal experiences of how they benefitted during Zuma's presidency.
The examples range from new road connections, universities and scholarships. Briefly.co.za took a look at some of the posts using the hashtag #IBenefittedUnderZuma:
"PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma officially opened the road that connects the communities of Newlands, KwaMashu, Inanda, KwaDabeka, Clermont, New Germany and Pinetown."
