A South African taxi was filmed travelling with its sliding door completely off its hinges, leaving passengers to deal with the situation themselves while it moved. TikTok user @ms_dipuo posted the clip on 23 August 2026, and it spread quickly across social media as viewers could not believe what they were seeing.

Taxi safety in the spotlight

In the footage, a man standing outside the moving taxi is seen feeding the heavy metal door frame through the open gap while commuters inside scramble to help lift and align it back into place.

The video reignited frustration around the state of public transport in South Africa. Unroadworthy minibus taxis have long been a concern for commuters who rely on them daily, yet many of these cars continue to operate with little consequence. The clip drew strong reactions from people who said the scene was not just shocking but all too familiar.
