Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Khama Billiat’s future has attracted wide speculation as the 2020/21 DStv Premiership season is drawing to a close. According to one of the club’s former players, Linda Buthelezi, Billiat should be released by the Soweto giants.
The former Bafana Bafana midfielder argues that the Zimbabwean international is not offering anything to the Glamour Boys.
Chiefs have been blowing hot and cold this term under coach Gavin Hunt and the former Mamelodi Sundowns star is one of the players who were expected to raise their hands and lead the club.
Amakhosi missed out on lifting the MTN8 title and are on the verge of finishing outside the top eight as they sit at number nine on the log table.
This comes after Chiefs are yet to extend Billiat’s contract despite having four matches left to wrap up their campaign. Buthelezi told KickOff:
“Billiat must go, he is doing nothing for us. I'm a Chiefs person mina, he must go. I don't think Chiefs signed him because they wanted to invest in him in a sense of selling him overseas. If that was the case we would have seen it by now.
"We can see from far that we invested in him so that he would score goals for us. That didn't happen. So he must just go... the option they have on him means nothing, my brother. An option is not an agreement, it's a recommendation. It means nothing.
"I don't think he will be signed for another season because he gave us nothing ever since he arrived. It's not like he will be missed. What we need are good defenders and also someone who will score goals for us.
"It's not like we don't have such players in this country. If you can go to Baroka, they play good football, they have talented boys there, even Black Leopards have good players there. You can sign a few of them here and they will be very serious once they get here.”

Looking at Billiat’s contribution this season, the skilful attacker has only managed to score two goals coupled with six assists in 11 appearances. However, Hunt will look at finishing the season on a high and they will face off against Swallows FC in the league on Wednesday.
Soccer24 also reported that the fact that Billiat was substituted in their recent match against Masandawana due to injury could affect his chances of securing a new contract at Naturena.
The 30-year-old, who recently recovered from a leg injury he suffered in January, but could be forced to spend some time on the sidelines again.
Briefly News previously reported that Hunt said the former Ajax Cape Town player is still part of his plans after beating Orlando Pirates a month ago.
The Amakhosi mentor explained the Zimbabwean international was currently nursing a broken leg but he is still a key figure of his team despite media reports suggesting otherwise.
Hunt led his troops to a 1-0 win over the Buccaneers at FNB Stadium, thus bagging his first Soweto derby victory via a goal netted by striker Samir Nurkovic.
