South Africans using petrol vehicles can expect a decrease in fuel price in October, but it's bad news for those using diesel because it will increase by 43 to 50 cents per litre. According to News 24, both grades of petrol (93 and 95) will decrease by R1.24/l.

The Automobile Association (AA) said the negative outlook for diesel shown in the Central Energy Fund's (CEF) mid-month data is worrying because diesel is predominantly used by the agricultural, manufacturing and mining industries.

EWN reported that there would have been a bigger decrease if the rand was stronger, but SA's weak currency has affected the general outlook.

Fuel prices rapidly increased at the beginning of the year affecting consumer pockets in various ways. South Africans were pleasantly pleased by the news of petrol price dropping:

Diesel influences the cost of living so we can expect the cost of living to go up as the diesel price increases again . Don't know why petrol can't subsidise diesel. Guess it's a tax thing government is loving the high cost of living today

@RedSaiyen said:

"Another drop to favour Mr Phala-Phala at the National Conference in December."

@UNgumzamo tweeted:

"I hope you will decrease your taxi fares after this."

@k_indii posted:

"Unfortunately, taxi prices and food prices won't drop."
