The recent developments in Ayepyep founder DJ Sumbody's murder have sparked a reaction from his family. Oupa Sefako was gunned down in Woodmead, Johannesburg, on 20 November 2022.
This week, the South African Police Service (SAPS) revealed that they have made more arrests in this case, bringing the total to four. The family of the late amapiano producer has since broken its silence and has extended their gratitude to the SAPS.
DJ Sumbody's family speaks out
The Monate Mpolaye hitmaker's family released a statement through the Be A Sumbody Foundation, saying they noted how the Gauteng organised crime unit, together with the SAPS, worked relentlessly to nab the people involved in his murder. They stated that this was part of their efforts to find the killers and arrest them for the murder. A businessman from Sandton, named Katiso “KT” Molefe, is accused of being the one who ordered the hit.

The Sefako family also hailed law enforcement for being dedicated to bringing justice for these senseless killings. They also thanked those who had been vocal about getting justice for DJ Sumbody's murder.
“The dedicated law enforcement has been instrumental in this case, and we remain hopeful for a thorough legal process. We would also like to thank South Africans, patriots, and supporters of DJ Sumbody and the foundation for their unwavering love, prayers, and solidarity. Your continued support has been a source of strength for the family.”

4 suspects nabbed for Sumbody's murder
This week, the National police spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, revealed that they arrested three hitmen and the alleged mastermind, who ordered the attack. The four men made their first court appearance on Tuesday, 22 July 2025.
“The three hitmen and alleged mastermind are facing three counts of murder; these charges include the murder of DJ Sumbody and his two bodyguards, Sibusiso Mokoena and Sandile Myeza,” Mathe said addressing the media.

In a shocking twist, the firearm that was used in the murder was the same one used on social media influencer Tebogo Thobejane and other high-profile murders.
"At this stage, all four firearms, including the one AK-47, are linked to at least ten high-profile cases that include murder as well as attempted murder."
Sizwe Dhlomo and Sol react to Kenny Kunene
