The scandal spanned months and was brought up in conversations years later, with several people claiming that the YouTuber used the money to fund his lavish lifestyle. Breaking his silence, Lasizwe said the comments really got to him.
"4 years ago, I was dragged through the mud over claims that I stole R2 million yama students, which was false and it’s lies. Till this day, that accusation still haunts me.
Lasizwe revealed in an emotional Twitter (X) post on 23 July 2023 that the allegations caused immense damage to his reputation:
"I'm seeing people joking about it now, but you don’t understand the damage it caused. I’ve spent 4 years trying to clear my name from something I didn’t do."
While he has addressed the scandal on numerous occasions, it's clear that Lasizwe has a long way to go before his name is cleared. X user MinisterofN shared a list of the students who received the money for their registration fees, totalling 166.
