Leleti Khumalo Cautions Fans Over Concerning Online Scam: “Please Be Vigilant”

South African actress Leleti Khumalo has been a victim of a scam. The actress alerted her online community about a medical drug being promoted using her name and face, ultimately tarnishing her brand.

Taking to social media, Leleti Khumalo made it known that she is in no way associated with the drug and that people should not fall victim to scammers.

"Beware of SCAMMERS! Please, my people, be aware. If you see something suspicious on my Instagram or Facebook accounts, please alert me so you can be sure. These links are scams; I am in no way associated with any of them! Please be very careful," she cautioned.

Leleti Khumalo issues statement regarding a scam

In the statement, Leleti stated that a medical drug has been promoted using her image and name. After receiving multiple tip-offs from people, Khumalo made it known that this is a scam.

"Leleti Khumalo is in no way, shape, or form associated with any medical endorsements, brand deals, or campaigns of this nature. Any such claims are fraudulent and unauthorised," the statement reads in part.

The team labelled this illegal, and Khumalo's face is being used to rope in potential victims.

"These pages and advertisements are illegally using Leleti Khumalo's likeness to mislead the public. We strongly advise the public not to click on, engage with, or share any links or content that claim to be endorsed by Leleti Khumalo unless the information is published directly on her official social media platforms."

Khumalo and her team added that they consulted the authorities to work on this matter. "Protecting the public from scams and safeguarding Leleti Khumalo's name and reputation remain our top priority," they ended off the statement, adding that Leleti does not have a Facebook or X (Twitter) account.

Just recently, media mogul Connie Ferguson exposed a WhatsApp scam where impostors used AI to generate a video of them advertising a trading company.

"I DO NOT offer any investment opportunity in business! Thieves are [using] AI now to convince you that they are whoever they say they are! Do not easily part with money you worked so hard for!" she exclaimed.

Connie Ferguson further alerted people to be able to discern when something seems too good to be true, and urged them not to part with their hard-earned money easily.

Ramaphosa hails Khumalo

In a previous report from Briefly News, President Cyril Ramaphosa took the time to celebrate Muvhango actress Leleti Khumalo on winning a prestigious award.

The star and Anant Singh were recognised at the Monte Carlo Television Festival in Monaco. This was for her work in the drama film Don’t Give Up. Ramaphosa thanked Khumalo and Singh for flying the Mzansi flag high.
