Power FM radio host Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has criticised President Cyril Ramaphosa in a lengthy post. Ndlozi’s reaction came after the commission of inquiry probing the KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s allegations of political interference in the SA Police Service (SAPS) was postponed indefinitely.

Ndlozi had previously raised eyebrows with his praise of how Ramaphosa was handling the allegations made by Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. Now, Ndlozi is singing a different tune and is blasting President Ramaphosa after the commission he set up stalled because of unfulfilled commitments by the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development.

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry was expected to begin public hearings in Pretoria on 1 September 2025, but the chairperson, retired Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, disclosed that they could not proceed because the justice department failed to procure the necessary infrastructure in time.

In a lengthy post on X, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi questioned how President Ramaphosa could justify the failure by the justice department to procure vital infrastructure to kick off a commission of inquiry he set up.

Ndlozi said it's either that Ramaphosa is wilfully setting the commission to fail or he is incompetent.

“How does Ramaphosa, in his sober head, justify that his government cannot provide vital infrastructure for the commencement of an inquiry that he set up? This is either a direct sabotage or utter incompetence reminiscent of the circus we all saw at that UNISA gathering dubbed National Convention,” Ndlozi wrote.

He said the development was evidence that members of the Government of National Unity (GNU), including possibly Ramaphosa himself, prefer General Mkhwanazi to appear before parliament. Ndlozi suggested that Mkhwanazi appearing before the ad-hoc committee would be a waste of time since it comprises individuals he named in his explosive press briefing,

“It is clear to me that many in the GNU, including perhaps Ramaphosa himself rather have Mkhwanazi first appear in the parliament ad-hoc committee populated by questionable characters with a direct conflict of interest as to some of the key subjects of Mkhwanazi’s testimony: Sibiya,” Ndlozi added.

Ndlozi suggested that the delays were intentional and meant to instil public doubt in Mkhwanazi.

"They seek to poke holes, using pure political theatre, in his testimony, create doubt in the mind of the public, and dampen down his confidence. So that by the time he arrives in front of Madlanga, he is not only doubtful of himself, but most importantly, society doubts his submissions and evidence," he added.
