Speakers were excited to share stories about the late actress, including Nyembe’s friend, Thoko Ntshinga. The lady shared a memory that highlighted the late actor’s bravery and left many in awe.

Ntshinga remembered travelling late at night with Nyembe and a fellow actor, Sello Maake KaNcube, during the apartheid era. The gang got out of a car feeling tipsy after enjoying some drinks.

An Afrikaner cop confronted the group about the noise they made. Ntshinga explained that Nyembe refused to stand back and backtalked to the policeman.

The officer got a bit annoyed and pulled out his gun, which Nyembe slapped out of his hand. Ntshinga shared that the cop crawled to get his gun back and ran off:

“That’s how brave Nandi was.”

The mourners chuckled after hearing the funny story. Ntshinga also touched on the neglected entertainment industry and urged artists to know their worth and never settle for an underpaying gig.

Briefly News recently reported that South Africans were heartbroken by the saddening news of Nandi Nyembe’s death on Saturday evening. In a joint statement, the Nyembe family and the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, confirmed the news.
