Veteran actress Vatiswa Ndara has shared why she is no longer appearing on the small screen. The former broadcaster accused South Africa’s film industry of blacklisting her and shares the information in her upcoming autobiography, Unfiltered 2.

Ndara previously ruffled feathers when she penned an explosive letter to Nathi Mthethwa, accusing Connie and Shona Ferguson of exploiting her. Now, she is gearing up to release a follow-up to her first book, Unfiltered - My Unglamorous Odyssey in the World of South African Entertainment.

In Unfiltered 2, Vatiswa Ndara shared how she confronted Mzansi Magic after a producer disclosed that they had been told not to cast her for a role in a project they were working on.

In an extract shared on her official X account on Wednesday, 30 August 2025, Vatiswa Ndara detailed how she discovered the film industry had allegedly blacklisted her. She said that while there is no concrete evidence, the signs are usually obvious.

“The telltale signs are there that you’ve been blacklisted, but how do you prove it? I don’t think broadcasters and producers are dumb enough to expose their malicious ways by having a blacklist dossier, especially for someone who’s done nothing wrong,” writes Ndara.

She gave one instance where an unnamed producer informed her that Mzansi Magic had denied his request to cast her in a role.

When she confronted M-Net’s head of drama, Lufuno Nethengwe, he explained that the choice wasn’t made because she was blacklisted, but Mzansi Magic felt someone would fit the role better.

“In 2020, I confronted Mzansi Magic, seeking confirmation that they had blacklisted me. I did this after a producer informed me that he was denied casting me for a role in his new show. However, the allegation was swiftly denied. Lufuno Nethengwe, M-Net’s head of drama, assured me that the channel had no issues with me. He explained that the decision to reject the producer’s casting choice was not due to blacklisting but rather a matter of ensuring the right fit for the role. Was this their subtle way of telling me I couldn’t act?” part of the book reads.

Vatiswa Ndara did not share details of when the autobiography will be officially released but her posters only indicate it will be in October 2025.
