Enhle Mbali's words struck a nerve among black South Africans after she used the k-word. Some netizens reminded others that Enhle Mbali sparked nationwide anger with another incident over a racial post she shared in 2016.
Enhle Mbali's viral use of the k-word to describe her hair reminded people that she once faced backlash for blackface. The actress tried to celebrate darker skin tones during the black lives matter era. To make a statement, Enhle posted a photo of herself with dark face makeup and red lips. In the Instagram post, she wrote that the day love wins will be one when " we love ourselves enough to start bleaching browner, when our love for ourselves gets black lives to matter even more."
The screenshot shows that Enhle Mbali immediately received backlash for posting the photo. In a 2016 News24 article, Enhle reportedly replied, saying the essence of her message was not to offend anyone. She said people being offended by her painting her face darker proved her point that people cared too much about skin. She wrote," All lives matter, no matter where their hues are in the colour wheel. Imagine the day we will get that right, we will stop being offended by trivial things and deal with real issues. Enhle apologised to people who did not like her interpretation of the matter.

"What’s wrong with this lady? I’ve known that she isn’t the brightest, but this?"
@CvltvreTLK defended Enhle:
"I get what she's saying. A lot of black people, black women in particular, bleach their skin lighter as they perceive lighter skin to be more desirable. We all have a deeply rooted hatred for ourselves as black people. "

"I'm not surprised, even though I don't think she's a bad person, I do think she's ignorant "

"Painted herself black like she’s not already black 😭👋🏾"
