Actress Thuso Mbedu has finally opened up about her much-debated American accent.

In the past few years, after landing her big break in the Hollywood scene, people have been against Thuso's American accent. At some point, she clapped back at a troll who came for her, regarding the new accent.

Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela posted a video of Mbedu and her Tank co-star, who is from Ireland, where they explained how they lock in on the accents.

"Just coming into the American accent itself, because I am originally from South Africa. There are certain things that my tongue can do," she said, emphasising her 'r'. "Just playing with that has been super interesting."

SA debates Mbedu's accent

Netizens debated Mbedu's accent:

@RandomoneSa said:

"My only problem with uGirl is that when she is done acting, she does not return the accent to its original owners."

@lerrykins_ argued:

"No shade to her, but this is what most celebrities do to assimilate and get work #there, and I understand that, especially for actors. Think the backlash with Tyla is that she doesn’t even try to assimilate, but will push her home country, and she’s not even trying to sound like them."

@blackisdeity joked:

"She must ask T-bo for some lessons."

@Kayaletu3 stated:

"The problem with Touch is that he rushed to learn the accent before mastering the English language. Obviously, the accent is gonna sound fake, mos."

"Our beautiful Thuso Mbedu."

@BoostingCable stated:

"South African actors are just better. Let's be honest here."

@MphoQueen reacted:

"What a pretty girl. I hope her mom knows she birthed a star, and she is watching down on her."

@intombikaNtombi argued:

"You guys are so diarist because how many times must we say, when you move to a certain country, you adapt the way they talk? Dead this chat."

@Sadida_RU replied:

""It gets too much. I'm yet to watch Task, but I know she ate."
