Singer, poet and Johannesburg mayoral hopeful Ntsiki Mazwai has weighed in on the shocking death of St Stithians Girls' College pupil Cameron Waldeck-Cooks. Mazwai's single-word reaction captured the disbelief felt by many South Africans after the family released new information about how the 17-year-old died.

Mazwai shared her response on 7 August 2026 in reaction to an Eyewitness News report revealing that preliminary findings by an independent forensic pathologist indicated Cameron died from strangulation and suffocation.

Ntsiki reacts to Cameron Waldeck-Cook's case details

Cameron's body was discovered on the morning of 3 August 2026 by Graham Coetzee at a self-catering holiday home near Sabie, Mpumalanga. A second Johannesburg teenager was also found dead at the same property, with police now investigating both deaths. Her family described Cameron as a devoted daughter, sister, friend and student.
