Dineo Ranaka has had enough. On 18 September 2026, the media personality took aim at MacG and Sol Phenduka in a pointed public callout, sharing a screenshot of her comment on a post about the death of runner Elizabeth "Tsontso" Moselakgomo. Her words were direct and unsparing, taking the Podcast and Chill hosts to task for what she described as the dehumanisation of both Moselakgomo and her daughter.

"Come this side and hear what you dehumanised, who you dehumanised. A child was vulnerable and in a state of panic, her mother was missing, and you thought, 'Yes, let's make this shock humour.' You chose to normalise dehumanisation."

The backlash traces back to a Podcast and Chill episode titled Tsekeleke Debate | Sol the Soccer Star | US Extradites Nigerian Scammers | Gen Z Unemployable, that aired on 14 September, the same day Moselakgomo's body was discovered. At the time of recording, she had not yet been found.

What's more heartbreaking is that it was her eight-year-old daughter who bravely raised the alarm when her mother did not return home.

During the episode, MacG suggested the missing runner could have "kept on running" had she spotted danger in time, while Sol used wordplay connected to her race number as the basis for a joke. The outcry that followed was swift and widespread, with critics framing the incident within South Africa's deeply troubling reality of gender-based violence, femicide, and the country's growing missing persons crisis.

Sol issued a public apology on 16 September, which drew a mixed response from the public. Some accepted it at face value, while others were far less forgiving.

Dineo Ranaka calls out a pattern

Ranaka made it clear she was not moved by Sol's apology, calling it "useless" and arguing he would never have spoken up were it not for the public outcry forcing his hand. She also used the moment to highlight what she sees as a recurring pattern of misogynistic behaviour from the podcast pair.

"You got tired of mocking our wombs and vaginas, huh? Those jokes don't work anymore, huh? Now you're mocking our corpses and orphaned children?" she wrote, before closing her statement by labelling the duo "bottom of the barrel filth."

Ranaka was not alone in her criticism. Public figures including Cassper Nyovest and Ntsiki Mazwai also weighed in, placing the latest incident within the context of the podcasters' history of controversial remarks about women.

The episode has placed Podcast and Chill squarely back at the centre of a national conversation about the limits of comedy in a country where femicide remains a devastating reality, and where many feel that hiding behind humour no longer washes.
