Zimbabwe is preparing to bid farewell to one of its most controversial and high-profile businessmen, Wicknell Chivayo, and his wife Lucy Muteke, following their deaths in a helicopter crash. Family spokesperson Herbert Chivayo confirmed on Sunday, 4 October 2026, that the burial ceremony at Glen Forest Cemetery on Thursday, 8 October 2026, will be open to all members of the public.
The couple died when their helicopter went down in Marondera, with three other people also losing their lives in the crash. Wicknell was 46 years old, born in 1980, while Lucy was 35, born in 1991.

A joint statement from the Chivayo and Muteke families described Wicknell as "a man of vision, faith and unmatched generosity" and Lucy as "a gentle and loving soul." The families thanked Zimbabweans for the outpouring of support, saying the nation had stood with them "in this dark hour."
