A Durban family has been reunited with their missing loved one after weeks of agonising silence. Sanele Zwane, known in music circles as Ipolo The DJ, turned up safe at his New Germany home near Pinetown following a disappearance that had his relatives fearing he would become another missing-persons tragedy.

Zwane, 26, was last seen by his family on 2 September 2026, when he left for what seemed like a routine workday. After that, all communication went dark, and repeated attempts to reach him on his cellphone went nowhere, prompting his relatives to file a missing persons report with police.

What Ipolo The DJ says happened

Speaking to Daily Sun, Zwane said the night unravelled after he joined a group of people he believed were childhood friends for drinks and a night out following his shift. What began as a social evening reportedly ended with him losing nearly everything.

Rather than going directly to the police or heading home, Zwane stayed at his friend's flat and attempted to retrieve his belongings independently. That plan changed the moment he worked out who was responsible.

"I didn't rush to report the matter at the police station because I thought I'd be able to get my things back on my own. But when I discovered they were taken by dangerous people, I had to back off. Then I went back home. I lost my job, and I was broke. My life was a mess, and I had to start afresh," he said.

His mother's emotional reaction

For Fikile Ngcobo, the weeks without word from her son were filled with dread. She told Daily Sun that Sanele's silence was deeply out of character, which made the uncertainty all the more difficult to bear.

"He can still replace the things he lost, and at least he's still alive because life isn't replaceable," she said.

Zwane now faces the task of rebuilding after the ordeal left him without his identification documents, employment, or a cellphone. His family, however, says that with him home safely, the hard work of starting over can begin.
