Nasty C is speaking out after fans drew comparisons between his new song and a track by American rapper Don Toliver, and his explanation has reignited the conversation online.

The debate kicked off shortly after Nasty C and Tellaman dropped their collaborative album, T's & C's Apply, on 1 September 2026. Listeners zeroed in on the closing track, "As Planned", pointing out that its atmospheric production, melodic textures and late-night R&B mood sounded remarkably close to Toliver's "Secondhand", a song featuring Nigerian artist Rema from Toliver's Octane album. Some even wondered whether the two tracks shared a sample or interpolation.

Nasty C weighs in on similarities

Rather than dodge the comparisons, Nasty C addressed them head-on. He attributed the resemblance to both camps independently landing on the same producer or sample.

"I dropped this album, and we happened to use the same producer or sample or whatever it is. And that was just like a coincidence," he said.

The rapper also made clear that "As Planned" was not a reaction to Toliver's release. He revealed the track had been sitting in the vault well before the album came out.

"Yeah, I had that song in the cut just sitting," he added.

His account suggests the two songs converged organically rather than through any intentional reference or creative borrowing.

"As Planned" serves as the final chapter of T's & C's Apply, a 17-track project that cements what has been a long-running creative partnership between Nasty C and Tellaman. The two first began collaborating in the mid-2010s, steadily building a musical rapport before committing to a full joint album.
