Music producer and Lion King composer Lebo M has sparked a heated online conversation after posting a selfie-style video addressing the political storm brewing around his decision to publicly back opposition parties. Filmed in what appears to be a hotel room, complete with curtains, a floor lamp, and a decorative mirror behind him, Lebo M spoke directly to the camera in a close-up, emotionally charged monologue, gesturing with his hands to drive home his points.

The composer confirmed he had been "bombarded" with messages and comments following his endorsement of Action SA, the ATM, and activist Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma's March and March movement. He was clear that his support extends to any organisation he believes genuinely prioritises South Africans.

He said in the clip, adding that he has voted for the party in the past but will never hold membership of any political organisation.

"I don't believe the ANC specifically has the best interest or has had from inception the best interests of South Africans."

Lebo M on Infrastructure and a Lost Era

Lebo M used the video to draw a sharp contrast between the South Africa he remembers and what he sees today. He spoke passionately about the decay of train networks, hospitals, and broadcast infrastructure, singling out what he described as the destruction of Bob Studios, which he said was once ranked among the top three most technically advanced studios in the world. He said, reflecting on the facility where some of South Africa's most celebrated productions were recorded:

"I've held that pain for so long."

He also pushed back against critics who questioned why he was speaking out from abroad rather than appearing on radio or television. Lebo M said he refuses to engage on what he called "manipulated radio stations or manipulated and controlled television stations," insisting that social media gives him a direct platform to reach the public.

Lebo M calls it treason

One of the video's most forceful moments was his reaction to a recent Constitutional Court ruling that Home Affairs tried to implement on immigration. Lebo M called the decision an act of treason and said it was one of the key reasons his frustration had reached a boiling point. He said, framing his political commentary as a civic obligation rather than a personal agenda:

"It's not my right, it's my duty now to protect my children and my great-grandchildren's future."

"Imagine not wanting to put the best interests of native South Africans 32 years into democracy... what happened to empowering the previously disadvantaged? How are immigrants a priority in SA? We know who we were pre and post 94, ANC has killed so many of our dreams."

@Land_a_priority added:

"Much respect for you, Ntate Lebo M. Our country is under siege; the ANC government has completely abandoned its own people and decided to maintain a relationship with the AU. One day there will be revolution that politicians won't control."
