Black Motion founding member Thabo Smol is making serious moves as a solo artist, with his album Di Thupa Tsa Smol landing a Grammy consideration in the Best Alternative Jazz Album category. The nod, confirmed on 11 October 2026, has set his upcoming Live and Re-imagined performance on a whole new level.

The Grammy recognition has translated directly into ticket demand, with the first night of his scheduled show at the Untitled Basement in Braamfontein officially selling out. The performance, set for 7 November, will showcase the album in a live format that promises to be unlike anything fans have seen from the drummer and producer before.

What makes Di Thupa Tsa Smol different

Released in April, the album is described as Thabo Smol's most personal body of work yet, shaped by pain, purpose, and spirituality. According to IOL, the project represents far more than a career pivot for the Black Motion co-founder; it is a chance to reconnect with his roots and let audiences meet the man behind the drums.

The Untitled Basement venue captured the spirit of the moment in a statement celebrating the artist.

"Some artists make music. Others build legacies, challenge expectations, and redefine what is possible," the venue wrote, adding that "2026 has been Thabo Smol's year."

On what attendees can expect from the live show, they promised, "This is Thabo Smol as you've never experienced him before."

With tickets for 7 November gone, the artist and the venue moved quickly to accommodate the overflow of interest by adding a second night at the same Braamfontein location on 8 November. Fans who missed the first wave of tickets now have another shot at catching what promises to be one of the most talked-about live performances of the year.
