‘Uzalo’ Actors Have Reportedly Not Been Paid Their Salaries for 2 Months

Actors from South Africa's most-watched soapie, Uzalo, recently shared that they have not received their income for over 8 weeks.

The TV show's production company, Stained Glass TV, recently confirmed that the soapie has been put on hold due to financial challenges with the SABC.

According to News24 reporter, @TVwithThinus, actors on the SABC1 soapie, Uzalo, have not received their salaries for 2 months.

"Actors on SABC1's @Official_SABC1, Uzalo @Uzalo_SABC1 say they haven't been paid for 2 months, have no other form of income, and can't pay their bills," he writes on his X account.

Though the SABC shared that there was no production break, sources from the show confirm that cast and crew didn't get paid. According to media reports, the channel continuously pays the production company late.

Stained Glass TV recently shared in a statement that they are compelled to stop production.

"We regret to inform you that, due to severe cash flow constraints, we are compelled to pause production with immediate effect."

The production company also revealed that they are actively engaging with the SABC to resolve the matter as soon as possible.

Muvhango cast unpaid

Daily Sun reported in June that actors from SABC2's soapie Muvhango were still waiting for their last payment from Word of Mouth Pictures.

A source from the show revealed to the publication that the cast and crew concluded filming on 30 May and were expecting their salaries on the last day of May.

This came after the SABC confirmed that the Tshivenda soapie has been cancelled and replaced with Bakwena Productions' upcoming telenovela Pimville Queens.

TVwithThinus reported on his X account in June that the SABC abruptly stopped airing new episodes of Muvhango.

"@SABCPortal abruptly stops airing the remaining new episodes of the cancelled @MuvhangoSA episodes on @SABC_2, without explanation," said Thinus.

The cast and crew of Word of Mouth Pictures shared that they were not paid, and producers told them they were not paid by the channel.

Thinus added that after there were suddenly no Muvhango episodes for Thursday or Friday, the Saturday omnibus on Saturday was also removed.
