Buyile Mdladla has opened up about the rollercoaster ride that is the acting industry, characters he has on his wishlist and what anchors him.
The Genesis star, who portrays the role of Gabriel Gigaba in the Mzansi Magic telenovela, spoke to Sunday World about the "unforgiving" and "rewarding" industry.
He says one of the lows is when you are told that your contract won't be renewed because writers have no storyline for you.
“You pour yourself into a character, then suddenly you’re back to auditions, throwing the dice again," he said. "That’s the unforgiving part.”

But there are also rewarding highs.
Buyile says the affirmation from the crew, who he describes as his first audience, is "priceless". When they applaud him after a scene, it reminds him why he does what he does.
When the going gets tough, Buyile, who is also a pastor, digs deep into his faith. It's where his strength comes from, he says.
“My faith is my anchor. It shapes how I approach characters."
The actor, who formerly starred in Uzalo as villain Mthambisi Phakathi, says he would like to "play the nice guy for once" so that audiences can meet his playful side.
“I’d love to play the nice guy for once. The kind of character who helps an old lady cross the street."

His ex-wife, Carol Mdladla, made the accusation shortly after the couple announced their divorce.
Carol made serious accusations against the actor, saying he physically abused her during their marriage, at one point even beating her with a belt buckle.
She said that she had pressed charges with the Orlando Police Station after one of the assaults, but later withdrew them because she was afraid.
"Nobody wants a divorce, but my marriage to Buyile was doomed to end eventually," she told Drum back then. "I'd been emotionally divorced for years before I filed papers."
Buyile has since remarried. He is married to Gomoditswe Mdladla, with whom he shares a daughter, and together they lead Redemption Ministries International Church.
