The eurozone economy narrowly avoided a technical recession in the second half of 2023 but stagnated in the final three months of the year, official data showed Tuesday. The data also showed the EU and the eurozone economies grew by 0.5 percent in the whole of 2023, compared to the previous year.

Northern Ireland's main pro-UK party, the DUP, said on Tuesday it endorses a deal with the UK government allowing it to end a long-running boycott of the province's devolved administration. If approved, the deal would allow the DUP and the nationalist pro-Irish Sinn Fein to elect a speaker for the Assembly as early as next week.

The German economy contracted at the end of 2023, official data showed Tuesday, the latest gloomy news for Europe's export powerhouse as it battles high inflation and a manufacturing slowdown. The agency also confirmed an initial estimate from earlier this month that Europe's export giant shrank 0.3 percent across the whole of 2023, and narrowly dodged a recession in the second half of the year.
