More than one million people have been displaced in Myanmar since the military coup last year, the United Nations children's agency has said. Since the coup and as of last month, 1,017,000 people have been internally displaced, UNICEF said in a statement on Thursday.

Taiwanese semiconductor giant TSMC posted better-than-expected third-quarter profits on Friday as rivals warn that demand for consumer electronics is being hit by the global economic downturn. TSMC's results came the same day biggest rival Samsung Electronics warned it expects operating profits in the third quarter to fall 32 percent.
