GAUTENG — A senior South African Police Service officer is set to appear in the Randburg court on Tuesday after being arrested on Monday in Sandton on allegations of sexual grooming and rape involving two young women.
The 59-year-old officer was taken into custody by the Recommendations Task Team, a unit established to act on matters stemming from the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. He was arrested at an adult club in Sandton before being transported to a local police station.
Charges involving two victims
Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed the nature of the allegations.

"The senior officer faces charges relating to the alleged sexual grooming of a 16-year-old girl between July and August 2026, as well as the alleged rape of an 18-year-old woman," Mathe said.
The alleged rape took place at a hotel in Sandton in May 2026.
The officer's identity has not been disclosed, as one of the complainants is a minor. However, sources who spoke to Eyewitness News indicated that the individual is someone whose name surfaced repeatedly during proceedings at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. He has also reportedly been the subject of separate investigations related to alleged corruption and misconduct.

The Recommendations Task Team, which carried out Monday's arrest, was set up specifically to pursue cases that emerged from the Madlanga Commission. The commission has been examining alleged wrongdoing within the South African Police Service, and several officers have been implicated in its proceedings.
The officer is expected to make his first court appearance in the Randburg Court on Tuesday morning. The allegations have not yet been tested in court, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Serial rapist arrested in KZN
