South Africa's unemployment crisis

According to StatsSA, unemployment is a big problem in South Africa, especially for young people between 15 and 34. In early 2024, almost half of them (about 45%) didn’t have jobs, compared to about 33% of the overall population.

Young people who already have some work experience are four times more likely to find a job than those who don’t. Education also matters a lot, less than 10% of working youth are graduates, showing how limited study opportunities make it harder to get employed.
