A safari video captured a heart-pounding chase between a lioness and zebras, leaving social media users in a state of shock.

The clip went viral after it was shared on TikTok by user @elsa18372, garnering 6.1M views, 188K likes, and 4.1K comments from social media users who were shocked by the close call.

The video starts at an angle where the safari vehicle is parked in the bush, with visitors sitting patiently. A group of zebras shows up from the tree area, moving towards the car. As they take a few steps, a hungry lioness runs towards them, immediately getting them to run for their lives, passing the safari car with guests, capturing the moment.

Zebras escape the lion's attack

The game ranger is heard telling them to sit still. As the zebras run, the lioness tries to jump on one of them, but it side-stepped her, forcing her to lose balance and miss a step, completely losing the group. She then proceeds to walk towards the bush, looking disappointed.

SA reacts to the near-fatal moment

The comments section was flooded with reactions from social media users who were in a state of shock. Many said they would have panicked and run out of the vehicle, commending the guests for following the guide's instructions and remaining still.

Some said safaris were a bit of a risk, adding that a driver's only advice would be to sit still, as they wouldn't be able to protect them from attacks. Others were proud of the zebras, saying the lioness was probably disappointed she couldn't get any of them, and joking about her walk of shame.
