The video shows four double-cab bakkies from different car companies attempting to pass a mud pit and immediately climb a very high hill.

The first car to go in was an Amarok, which passed the mud but dug itself in while trying to accelerate up the hill, eventually rolling backwards. The other two brands that followed also struggled, even after trying to approach the hill from different angles.

The hill climbing challenge

The Ford Raptor was the last to try, and many thought it would make it as it got close to the tip of the hill. It, however, lost and rolled backwards.

When it was the Toyota Land Cruiser's turn, it positioned itself nicely, went on high speed, and climbed the hill straight to the top and over it with no hassle. A crowd of gatherers who had filled the place with their cars to watch and participate in the activities celebrated the victory.

An expert's take on the off-road challenge

The Briefly News team spoke with car expert Tendani Muthumuni about the popular video of the hill-climbing competition.

We asked the man what makes the Toyota Land Cruiser a better car for such competitions. He shared:

"The Toyota Land Cruiser is an outstanding car for off-roading. Its design, powerful engine and high ground clearance give it a huge advantage. It's built for these kinds of conditions, and that's why it was able to conquer the challenge so easily."

We noted other strong cars that took part in the competition, like the Amarok and Ford Raptor, which failed to climb the hill and asked what he thinks happened. The car expert responded:

"It could have been many things. The drivers might not have known how to approach the hill, or they might have used the wrong gear. A car's performance is not just about its power; it's also about the driver's skill. You need to know your car's limits and what it is capable of doing."

When asked if he agrees with the viewers who said that the issue was not the other cars, but the drivers. Tendani said:

"I agree. A car's performance is determined by both the car and the driver's skill. The Land Cruiser's driver was experienced and strategic, and that's why he was able to conquer the challenge so easily. The other drivers, on the other hand, might not be experienced, as they failed to analyse the situation and come up with a good strategic move. That's what experience teaches you, to assess the situation first, before coming up with a strategy, before making a move."

SA reacts to the hill-climbing contest

The clip garnered comments in the section, which was filled with reactions from social media users who were impressed by the Toyota Land Cruiser, praising its ability to climb easily and calling it a beast.

Some said the issue was not the cars, but the drivers, calling the Land Cruiser’s driver experienced and strategic. Others said it wasn’t fair to put the winning car against others, saying that the Land Cruiser was built to work better in such environments.

"Guys, you can't compare these cars. The Land Cruiser was developed to be a military vehicle that can survive harsh conditions. But VW developed the Amarok to enter and compete in the global pickup truck market, providing a vehicle that combines rugged off-road capability with comfort and practicality for both work and life."

User @AURORA BEAUTY BAR added:

"But, I felt like the Raptor stood a chance."

User @Seluh.m shared:

"Driving skills are key here. There’s a video that I saw where someone was failing to reach the top of a mountain driving a 4x4 Land Cruiser."

User @Kevin mk🇿🇼🇿🇦 bragged:

"Toyota, lead the way. I’m in love with it ."

User @Mabheka warned:

"That hill is too narrow. That's dangerous."
