In a video that she posted on her social media account under the handle @simphiwemasilela74, it has since circulated widely online. @simphiwemasilela74 detailed the issues she encountered after booking what was meant to be a comfortable getaway.

According to her, she had been staying at the Airbnb for two nights when frustrations began to pile up.

“Excuse the house, it is a mess. I usually take care of Airbnbs. I like to clean up, but there are certain things that made me so mad, and I am not willing to wash dishes for them,” she said in the clip that she posted on 15 September 2025 on TikTok.

She first showcased the refrigerator, pointing out the groceries she had purchased and placed on the top shelves. However, the bottom shelves were filled with groceries belonging to the owner. Opening another cupboard, she revealed even more items belonging to the host, explaining that she was left with very little storage space.

While @simphiwemasilela74 acknowledged that some Airbnbs double as people’s residences, she criticised the lack of clearance for guests.

“They should be cleared out. I don’t want to find things that belong to the owners,” she said.

The situation grew more frustrating when she discovered that the closet space was almost entirely occupied by the host’s clothing. Although the TikTok user @simphiwemasilela74 had been told beforehand that some items would remain, she was only provided with one small section, while "everywhere else was filled with the owner’s clothing," she added.

Her most alarming complaint, however, was about pests. “There are literal cockroaches everywhere,” she said, sounding upset in the video. Despite describing the property as “a very beautiful Airbnb” and admitting she enjoyed certain aspects of it, she labelled the overall experience “disrespectful and diabolical.”

Adding to her disappointment, she noted the high cost, revealing in the comments that the price was R4500 per night for the booking. However, she did not disclose the location of the place, which made the lack of cleanliness and space even harder to accept.

“This Airbnb is very expensive, by the way. It’s really beautiful, but I was mad the whole time,” she concluded.

Her video has since sparked debate online, with many viewers sympathising with her frustration and calling for stricter standards for Airbnb hosts to ensure guest comfort.
