After controversial rapper Kanye West, also known as Ye, shared that he would perform for one night only at Ellis Park Stadium on 13 December, 2025, many began questioning the concert's legitimacy. One South African man wondered about the venue more than anything else.

On 21 September, 2025, social media personality Oarabile, better known as @mashnotpotatoes online, said on his TikTok account:

"You're telling me arguably one of the greatest hip-hop artists, if not the artist of our generation, is going to be doing his concert at Ellis Park?"

Mentioning artists, such as Chris Brown and Cassper Nyovest, who packed the stadium to its capacity of 94 736 seats, Oarabile asked:

"You telling me that guy can't fill up FNB Stadium?"

Ellis Park Stadium, located in Johannesburg, accommodates 62 567 people.

Uncertainty over Kanye West's concert

While some people in South Africa have shown excitement for Ye's supposed arrival, many have side-eyed the event because of its organiser, Monyake Group, which didn't have a website or link to pre-book tickets. Monyake Group noted that they experienced technical difficulties, adding that tickets would be available from 23 September, 2025.

Possible venue surprises Mzansi

Several members of the online community shared their shock at hearing that Kanye would possibly perform at Ellis Park Stadium, taking the venue's conditions and people's safety into consideration. On the other hand, other internet users didn't see a problem with it at all.

@lekaoa shared their opinion about the venue:

"Ellis Park is dangerous. They won't be able to control movement around the stadium. FNB Stadium was perfect because it's isolated, and security will be able to do its work."

@budget676 told the online community:

"Ellis Park gives you a nice compact experience. The stadium is designed nicely for a concert."

@clarisha_clarisha noted their assumptions in the comment section:

"I don't think it's about filling it up. I think he just doesn't want to go to FNB because that's what they all do, and dude likes to be different."

@dudechego said to people on the internet:

"I mean, the Boks play at Ellis Park all the time, and it's fine, so I think Kanye can also play at Ellis Park."

A frustrated @phindy_n added in the comments:

"Besides it happening at Ellis Park Stadium, why as South Africans should we support someone who supports Diddy, Elon and Trump, the same Trump that lied about black people genociding' white people?"
